Extreme Makeover: Home Edition

Tonight's episode of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition features a family with special needs kids adopted from China. Could be good, could be awful -- some of the local media reports are pretty heavy on the child-saver theme. It'll be interesting to see how the show handles it.

Happy Easter to those who celebrate it, happiness to all!

I hope it comes across better than it sounds; however, their themes tend to focus on rescue from all ends. I think they would do better to give five families on the block a moderate home instead of one an oversized, overextravegent home they end up not affording anyway.

We know of this family. I feel that they respected this family the entire time and did what the dad wished. To take care of his family.
Yes, I know how it ends. Very wonderful and loving family.

Hi, Tim&Kim -- I didn't get to see the episode. But I want to make clear I wasn't criticizing the family, merely noting that the local news coverage was falling into the all-too-common trap of talking about how generous and charitable adoptive parents are in adopting kids.

We may be charitable and generous in all kinds of other ways, but adopting our kids doesn't count as acts of charity! And I just hate it when news reports paint us as such.

I hope the EM:HE episode avoided that trap.
