A hunger, marrow-deep

In honor of National Adoption Awareness Month:

"In all of us there is a hunger, marrow-deep, to know our heritage- to know who we are and where we have come from. Without this enriching knowledge, there is a hollow yearning. No matter what our attainments in life, there is still a vacuum, an emptiness, and the most disquieting loneliness. "

My daughter just got assignment a "family tree" assignment. Alex Haley explains the life-long pain so well. But right now it feels like a burning fire in my gut. I cannot give my daughter the answers she needs to complete this assignment.

I am an adult adoptee from California with sealed birth certificate.
