LWB Unity Fund

Having read Cedar's post, linked here, about birth parents so desperate to provide life-saving medical treatment for their child that they relinquished her for adoption, Karen Maunu of the Love Without Boundaries blog wrote:
We have seen a number of parents in China on the verge of this desperation. We’ve also seen children who have obviously had some medical treatment as they are abandoned with surgical scars or needle marks from previous IVs. Obviously the parents tried to give the child the medical care they needed, but we have to wonder if they ran out of funds and so felt the desperation of having to leave them in the hopes they would get care.

This is the reason behind our Unity Fund, our medical treatment fund that helps poor, rural families who can’t afford medical treatment. We want families to stay together, and we love when we can “prevent an orphan” by providing the medical care needed so that the family doesn’t have to consider such a drastic decision.

If you, too, were moved by Cedar's post, and by knowing that the child relinquished in that story was our own Mei Ling, I would ask that you consider donating to LWB's Unity Fund.

Thank you so much for posting this. I've been looking for exactly this type of program.

My daughter did a little fundraiser selling potholders. She also added some money from her allowance and wanted the money to go help children have families. The Unity Fund was a perfect fit. She received an update on the family that her donation went to help - a family that had already lost a son in an accident, but opened their hearts to adopt a daughter. Financially devasted from their son's medical expenses, the family was heartbroken when the daughter urgently needed surgery they couldn't afford. The Unity Fund stepped in and allowed this family to stay whole and healthy. What a terific idea!
