Father's Day Burn

No way were the girls going to forget their Father's Day tradition of writing notes to Grandpa and their birth fathers, and then burning them so the smoke could carry their wishes to Grandpa in heaven and birth fathers in China.

  2. I don't get the burning. They would be awesome to hold onto and look at years later.

  3. Burning the notes is part of a Chinese Buddhist tradition that the girls are familiar with, having seen it frequently when we lived next door to a Buddhist temple for 5 months in 2007.

Buddhists burn fake money, fake items like cell phones and TVs, with the belief that the smoke will carry those items to their ancestors in the afterlife. That's why we burn the notes.

You notice that I took a picture of them, or sometimes I scan them. So we can fulfill the tradition, and still hold on to them to look at years later!
