One of the side-effects of the Eyes Wide Open post is that several Asian beauty sites have linked to it, and I was able to backtrack them through SiteMeter. I thought I'd share in case anyone wants to track down tips for Asian makeup:
Asian Beauty Blog
Goldfishcake.com

I'm banking them for the future -- like when my girls turn 30 and I finally let them date!
Thanks for these links. And I, too, am sick of people assuming that all Asians have monolids. The Tongginator is the only one (out of five) within our travel group who did.
ReplyDeleteI know. My daughter is often confused for being biracial--too many people buy into the stereotype.
ReplyDeleteSuh-weet! Thanks for the plug :)
ReplyDeleteHere's the direct link to the surgery topic and my own eyeliner tips for monolids that doesn't require inch-thick eyeliner.
I can't express enough how much I appreciate that you brought up this topic. I hadn't had such passion in a long time when I was writing about my take on the issue and it seems to have stirred up a bit of interest within the Asian-American community as well.
I am still not convinced that Asians undergo surgery to look "westernized". Maybe it is so for some Asian groups but it wouldn't make sense when applied to South koreans. Blapheroplasty is very common in South Korea but so is rigid nationalism.
Anyway, your daughters are very blessed to have a mother who cares about these issues. I wasn't adopted and I'm a 1.5 generation immigrant but my own mother has completely ignorant and not at all supportive about the hardships a migrated child could have growing up between cultures.
