I bought a new toy -- a FlipUltra digital video camera! I was trying it out on the girls at lunch yesterday (yes, the chicken & dumplings lunch!), and since we were in a restaurant, I "interviewed" them. So now they think that's all the camera is for! So they don't want to dance, show me cartwheels, etc. They want to be interviewed!
Here's my interview of Zoe about adoption -- her choice of topic.
And then Zoe interviewed Maya:
As you can see, my two girls have very different attitudes toward their birth parents. It might be age -- Maya is 5; it might be a deliberate attempt to be different on Maya's part; it might be difference in personality. But it is undoubtedly different. As influential as Zoe usually is with Maya, the fact that Maya sticks to her guns on this one suggests it is a very genuine opinion.
Did Maya actually say yes to the last question? O.o
ReplyDeleteKudos to her for remaining firm in her answers.
Yep, she did! She wants to be with mama, but she said "yes" to wanting to have spent more time with her birth parents.
ReplyDeleteAnd did you hear that you made an appearance in Zoe's video?!
Actually, no, I didn't. It was really hard to hear until I blasted the volume. Let me try again...
ReplyDeleteHmm.. yeah, just heard the mention of my name. That's so funny. XD
ReplyDeleteI couldn't hear it very well, but I'm guessing it was somewhere along the lines of the post "It's Not Fair"?
What did she say after she said "There is this girl named Mei-Ling who went to Taiwan to visit her birthparents"?
As you know Malinda, I always have to ask the girls to speak up. I put my audio setting on maximum and still I could not hear them, especially Zoe. So please tell them to really speak up for Mimi.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
Fran Aka Mom/Mimi
Yes, I know it's soft, but I wanted to practice posting our own videos! We'll try again when the girls are in the mood!
ReplyDeleteYes, Mei-Ling, it was basically that it was "unfair" that she couldn't meet her birth parents when you could, and it made her sad.
ReplyDeletehello, first time commenter here; all I can say is WOW!!! Love the videos. I'm the mom of a 10 yr. old boy originally born in Korea and we are currently searching for his first family. I love this blog, keep it up please!!

The flip is fab! I blogged awhile back about how incredibly useful it has been for processing, reflecting and pure fun! I treasure the vidoes I have of my oldest when she was still fluent in Mandarin. Love how Maya chews the questions over before responding...Great job girls!
ReplyDeletemew,
ReplyDeleteGlad you commented! I think we'd all like to know how your search is going and what motivated you to search at this time. Inquiring minds want to know!
Diane,
ReplyDeleteSince you've been using the Flip, advice, please! Is there some way to up the recording volume? As you can see, I'm having a hard time picking up the girls' quiet little voices even when the camera is right in their faces! When I say speak up, they do, but then they get uncomfortable and unnatural . . . .
