Jaden Smith and Jackie Chan have wonderful chemistry. The cinematography was beautiful, especially of the mountain monastery. Malinda makes a great point that many of the kung fu masters were women. Most importantly our 9 year old daughter loved the movie that took place in "her China". She gives the 2010 Karate Kid two thumbs up!Michele in ATLnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316191265933534655.post-48089618831217697652010-06-19T09:03:30.660-05:002010-06-19T09:03:30.660-05:00Lisa, Yes the PG rating is primarily for the marti...Lisa, Yes the PG rating is primarily for the martial arts -- no blood, some pretty painful-looking hits. Also mild language -- the only thing I remember is the word "ass," as in "kick my ass," but the boy is immediately corrected for it!malindahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06233439015219192874noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316191265933534655.post-787971056768396592010-06-19T08:36:11.027-05:002010-06-19T08:36:11.027-05:00Malinda - Do you think the movie was rated PG beca...Malinda - Do you think the movie was rated PG because of the martial arts? It sounds like a must see!
I think it's interesting the Chinese people don't stare. Surely the producers who visited China experienced that!No Bamboozle https://www.blogger.com/profile/07931712484017829352noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316191265933534655.post-40310567192641745492010-06-19T08:03:10.899-05:002010-06-19T08:03:10.899-05:00I didn't realize there was so much controversy...I didn't realize there was so much controversy over a simple movie. I thought the movie was GREAT and I also loved the fact that my daughter, age 6 and adopted from China, and I also recognized many of the scenes from China. I guess I'm "thick" but I didn't notice any unusual racism. Actually, I thought the actors, especially the young Chinese bullies, did a great job because everyone in the movie theater, was hoping and praying the Dre would finally show that Chinese bully a thing or two. I call that great acting and good character development, not racism.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316191265933534655.post-66019076523912805672010-06-19T07:08:34.216-05:002010-06-19T07:08:34.216-05:00My boys are too young to even sit through cartoon ...My boys are too young to even sit through cartoon movies right now, but I want to see Karate Kid. I just have such fond memories of seeing the original. I was in 1st or 2nd grade and at the end of the movie, the entire theater stood up and cheered!everythingismeowsomehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06671155513531459483noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-316191265933534655.post-81473596433153249622010-06-19T05:51:17.413-05:002010-06-19T05:51:17.413-05:00We saw it yesterday ... loved, loved, LOVED it!! In fact, we had our trip to the Great Wall diverted to another section because we heard Jackie Chan was filming there that day ... we had no idea at the time what it was all about. But that will always make this movie special to us. Seeing it yesterday brought back all the sights, sounds, smells of China. I found the fighting a bit much, but the romance was an unexpected sweet bonus. BTW, we're experimenting with May Ying's hairstyle today (my daughter is 11)!

Lee in CanadaLeenoreply@blogger.com
